What are the crucial distinctions between Therapy and Coaching?Focus and Goals: Therapy often focuses on healing past traumas and addressing mental health issues, with the goal of achieving psychological well-being. Coaching, on the other hand, is future-oriented, aiming to help clients achieve personal or professional goals and unlock their potential. Approach and Techniques: Therapists are trained to diagnose and treat mental health conditions using various therapeutic techniques. Coaches use motivational and strategic approaches to empower clients, encouraging personal growth and goal attainment. Professional Background: Therapists are licensed mental health professionals with specific training in psychotherapy and mental health disorders. Coaches may come from diverse backgrounds and are typically trained in coaching methodologies and practices rather than mental health. Client Issues: Therapy is suited for individuals dealing with mental health issues like depression, anxiety, trauma, or other psychological conditions. Coaching is ideal for those looking to improve specific areas of their lives, such as career, relationships, or personal development, without the need for psychological intervention. Time Frame: Therapy can be long-term, focusing on deep-seated issues and ongoing mental health management. Coaching is usually shorter-term and goal-specific, with a clear timeline for achieving specific objectives.

What is her primary role as a coach?Gwen’s role is to act as facilitator of change, providing support and guidance. She believes in empowering clients to take the rein of their inner journey, giving them full control over their transformation. But it is ultimately the client’s responsibility to act and implement the changes necessary to achieve their desired results.

Coaching versus HealthcareOur relationship will be as coach and client. While I, or a future member of our staff, may be trained and licensed to practice a health care profession in one or more states, you will not be my patient, and I will not provide health care services to you. I won’t diagnose or treat any medical or mental health condition. I will not provide you with medical or nursing care/services, nor will I provide therapy or counseling. Your health and wellbeing are my primary concern. To that end, you should always follow the advice of your treating providers, especially if it conflicts with any of our coaching goals or strategies. I am happy to work with you and your health care providers to integrate coaching goals and services into your treatment/wellness plan.
-
